The photo itself is not cropped, stretched or recolored. Only a margin is added around it, and the shadow sits in that margin.

When a drop shadow helps

A soft shadow lifts a photo off the page, which suits product pictures, presentation slides, cards and social posts. A small blur with a short distance looks clean and subtle; a large blur with a longer distance looks like a photo floating above the page.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. The shadow is drawn on your device, in your browser.

Why does my JPG result have a white background?

JPG has no transparency, so a transparent background becomes white in JPG output. Choose PNG if you need a see-through background, for example over a colored page.

Does the shadow change my photo?

No. The photo keeps its original pixels and size; the result is simply larger, because a margin is added around it to hold the shadow. On a photo that already has transparent areas, the shadow follows the visible shape, not a rectangle.

What if the shadow is cut off?

It cannot be cut off here: the margin is always blur plus distance plus 20 px on every side, so the whole shadow stays inside the result.
