Blur Background
Give a photo a portrait-style look: the center stays sharp and the background around it blurs — in your browser, with no upload.

Honest note: this tool does not detect your subject. It keeps a soft-edged oval in the center of the photo sharp and blurs everything outside it. It works best when your subject is already in the center — if it is off to one side, crop the photo first so the subject is centered, then blur the background here. The sharp area is always centered; moving it to another spot is planned as the next upgrade.

How to blur a photo background
- Choose an image, or drag and drop it above. Make sure your subject is in the center of the photo.
- Set the background blur — higher means a softer, more out-of-focus background.
- Set the sharp center size — smaller keeps only the middle sharp, larger keeps more of the photo sharp.
- Click Blur Background, check the result, then tap Download below to save it. Nothing is downloaded before you tap Download.
When this works well — and when it does not
It works well for centered portraits, pets and products: one main subject in the middle, with a busy background you want to soften. It does not work well for group photos or subjects standing at the edge of the frame — the sharp oval is fixed in the center, so an off-center subject will itself be blurred. In that case, crop the photo first so the subject sits in the middle, then use this tool.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tool use AI to find my subject?
No. There is no AI subject detection here. The sharp area is a soft-edged oval fixed in the center of the image, and everything outside it is blurred. That is stated plainly so the result never surprises you.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Blurring runs on your device, in your browser.
Can I move the sharp area to a face at the side of the photo?
Not yet. The sharp area is center-only in this version. Moving it to any spot is planned as the next upgrade.
What is the difference from the Blur Image tool?
Blur Image blurs the whole photo, which is right for hiding faces or private details. Blur Background keeps the center sharp and blurs only the surroundings, which is right for a portrait-style look.
