Image Grid Splitter

Turn one photo into a grid of equal tiles — for an Instagram profile grid, a puzzle, a poster, or a set of matching thumbnails. Pick 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 or a custom grid, then download each tile on its own or all of them as one ZIP. Everything runs in your browser. No upload, no signup, nothing is downloaded until you tap a Download button.

Choose an image first. Its size and a preview will appear below.

Whole-photo mode keeps every pixel: tiles on the last row or column can be a few pixels wider or taller when the photo does not divide evenly. Square mode centre-crops the photo to a square first, so the top and bottom (or left and right) edges are cropped away — centre crop only, no drag-to-position yet. JPG output turns transparent PNG areas white; choose PNG to keep transparency.

Nothing is downloaded automatically: tap a Download button, or Download all as ZIP, to save. The ZIP stores the finished tiles as they are, without recompressing them.

How image grid splitting works

  1. Choose one image. Its original size is shown under the preview.
  2. Pick a grid — 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 or a custom number of columns and rows — and a mode: whole photo, or square Instagram grid.
  3. Click Split image. Every tile gets its own Download button, labelled by row and column, or tap Download all as ZIP to save the whole grid at once. Nothing is downloaded automatically.

Posting a split photo as an Instagram grid

Instagram shows your newest post first, so a 3x3 grid reads correctly only if you post the tiles in reverse order: bottom-right first, then bottom-middle, bottom-left, and so on, ending with the top-left tile. Post the tiles one at a time in that order and check the profile grid before adding captions or other posts in between. This tool does not post to Instagram for you — it only makes the tiles.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. All splitting runs on your device, in your browser, and the ZIP is built on your device too.

Does splitting lose any part of the photo?

Not in whole-photo mode: every pixel lands in exactly one tile. In square mode, the centre square crop removes the outer edges on the long side before splitting, so check the preview size and keep your original photo.

Are the tiles square?

Only in square mode, or when the original photo and grid already make square tiles (for example, a square photo split 3x3). In whole-photo mode, tile shape follows the photo: a wide photo split 3x3 gives wide tiles.

Can I split a photo into a single row or column?

Not with this tool: the custom grid offers 2 to 5 columns and 2 to 5 rows, so the smallest grid is 2x2 and the largest is 5x5 (25 tiles). Single-row or single-column strips are a different cut and are not built here yet.
