Pixelate Image

Turn a whole photo into chunky square blocks — the classic pixel effect for hiding faces, text or private details, or for a retro game look — in your browser.

Larger blocks mean a more pixelated result. Small blocks (4–8 px) keep the image recognizable; large blocks (32–64 px) hide faces and text.

Honest note: pixelation hides detail permanently in the downloaded copy, so keep your original file. This tool pixelates the whole image. To pixelate only part of an image — one face or one number plate — use the Batch Blur & Pixelate tool instead.

How to pixelate an image

  1. Choose an image, or drag and drop it above.
  2. Move the block-size slider — larger blocks hide more detail.
  3. Click Pixelate Image, check the result at full size, then tap Download below to save it.

When to pixelate a photo

Pixelate faces of people who did not agree to be in a shared photo, number plates, addresses on documents, and private text in screenshots. It also gives photos a retro, 8-bit game look for avatars and social posts. For anything truly sensitive, use a large block size and check the result zoomed in — small blocks can still leave a face or text recognizable.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. Pixelation runs on your device, in your browser.

Can I pixelate only one face or one area?

This tool pixelates the whole image. For selected areas, use the Batch Blur & Pixelate tool, where you place boxes exactly over the faces or plates you want to hide.

Can pixelation be undone?

No — the blocks replace the original detail in the downloaded copy, so keep your original file. This tool never changes the file on your device; it only makes a new pixelated copy for you to download.
