When resizing by percent helps
Percent resizing suits photos that are simply too big to send, upload or post. Halving a 4000 px phone photo to 50% gives a 2000 px photo that still looks sharp on screen, with a much smaller file. It also works the other way: a small icon or logo can be doubled to 200% for a larger layout, though enlarging never adds detail that was not in the original.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. Resizing runs on your device, in your browser.
Does resizing by percent change the shape?
No. Width and height are scaled by the same percent, so the aspect ratio stays exactly the same. Nothing is cropped and nothing is stretched.
Why does a 200% photo look soft?
Enlarging spreads the same pixels over more space, so fine detail cannot appear from nowhere. For best quality, scale down rather than up whenever you can.
What happens to transparency in JPG?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white. Choose PNG if you need see-through areas.
