Output: exactly 851 x 315 px, JPG.
Center crop for now — an 851:315 rectangle is cut from the center of the image, then resized to 851 x 315 px. Nothing is stretched. If your photo is smaller than 851 x 315 px, it is enlarged to 851 x 315 px, which does not add detail.

Why 851 x 315?
851 x 315 pixels is Facebook's recommended cover photo size: a wide banner that displays sharply on desktop. The same file is also the starting point for a page cover, but keep the important part in the center — see the phone note below. See also our guide: How to Resize an Image for a Facebook Cover. Note: the 1200 x 630 size in our Social Resizer is the shared-link image, not the cover — do not use it as your cover.
Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Resizing runs on your device, in your browser.
Will my photo be stretched?
No. An 851:315 rectangle is cut from the center first, then resized — so a square photo loses its top and bottom, and a very tall photo loses even more. If your subject is off-center, crop it to a wide banner shape first.
What if my photo is smaller than 851 x 315 px?
It is enlarged to 851 x 315 px. Enlarging does not add detail, so a very small original will still look soft — it just meets the size requirement.
Why does my cover look different on a phone?
Facebook crops the left and right sides of a cover on phones (about 640 x 360 px shown), so text or faces near the edges can be cut off. Keep names, logos, and faces in the center of the image.
Does the profile photo cover part of the cover?
Yes, on desktop the profile photo overlaps the bottom-left of the cover. Keep that corner clear of important text.
What if the file is too large to upload?
An 851 x 315 JPG from this tool is usually small, but a very detailed photo can still be heavy — in that case run the result through our Compressor or the Compress to 200KB page first, then upload.
