Output: exactly 512 x 512 px, JPG.

Center crop for now — a square is cut from the center of the image, then resized to 512 x 512 px. Nothing is stretched. If your photo is smaller than 512 px on a side, it is enlarged to 512 px, which does not add detail.

Why 512 x 512?

512 x 512 pixels is the standard square size for avatars and profile photos: a 1:1 square that stays sharp on phones without an unnecessarily large file. Discord, Slack and Gravatar all use 512 x 512 for profile pictures, and 512 x 512 is also the standard icon size for Google Play listings and progressive web apps. It works well as a WhatsApp or Facebook profile picture, a forum avatar, or a small square listing image.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Resizing runs on your device, in your browser.

Will my photo be stretched?

No. A square is cut from the center first, then resized — so a wide photo loses its left and right edges and a tall photo loses its top and bottom. If your subject is off-center, crop it to a square first.

What if my photo is smaller than 512 px?

It is enlarged to 512 x 512 px. Enlarging does not add detail, so a very small original will still look soft — it just meets the size requirement.
